Artist Biography
Paula Stokes was born and grew up in Ireland. In 1991 she earned a Bachelors Degree in design specializing in glass from the National College of Art and Design, Dublin. In 1991 she was awarded a scholarship from the Finnish Ministry of Education.
Before moving to the U.S. in 1993 she spent a year studying at the International Glass Center in Brierley Hill, England. Between 2003 and 2005 Paula continued her studies in art, specializing in printmaking at the University of Washington where she was awarded the Milnora Roberts Scholarship for Academic Excellence.
Since moving to Seattle, Paula has worked with a number of established artists in the production of glass art: Flora Mace, Joey Kirkpatrick, Ann Welch and Dale Chihuly.
She has been a regular glassblowing instructor at Pratt Fine Arts Center, at the Seattle Glassblowing Studio and has taught at the Museum of Glass in Tacoma. Paula has been a guest teacher at Urban Glass in New York and at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin. She was a guest artist at the first Irish Glassmakers’ Conference in November 2000.
In 2005 and 2007 she taught at the Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood, Washington.
Paula spends her time teaching, making work and promoting art education. She has participated in a number of group shows in the US, and internationally in Ireland and China. 
Most recently her glass work has been added to the permanent collection of the National Museum of Ireland.
